A CYCLIST is recovering in hospital today four days after after he was involved in a road accident.
Carl Wood, aged 11, is in Salford's Hope Hospital with serious head injuries after the accident involving a Vauxhall Astra estate yards from his home in Chaddock Lane, Astley.
His injuries were initially treated as critical but a police spokesman said he is making a good recovery after being transferred to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
A hospital spokesman described his condition as "stable."
The accident happened at noon on Saturday near the Chaddock Lane and Kennedy Road industrial estate junction.
Driver Peter Parry, aged 45, of Maden Street, Astley, is not thought to have been injured.
Police have appealed for witnesses to call 0161 856 7273.
