BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent could have been priced out of a possible move for gangly QPR striker Peter Crouch.

Clarets chief Ternent has been linked with a move for the 6ft 7in forward since the season finished earlier this month.

But the cash-strapped London club have slapped a £1.5 million price-tag on the former Tottenham frontman as they look to raise some much-needed cash after a turbulent season.

That means Ternent would have to smash Burnley's transfer record if he wants to land the giant striker.

And, with funds still tight at Turf Moor, it's highly unlikely the Burnley boss would want to spend that kind of money on just one target with several new faces required this summer.

However, a striker still remains at the top of Ternent's summer wish-list.

And, if he can't tempt Gareth Taylor to sign a permanent contract in the next few weeks, then he may switch his attentions back to Coventry's John Aloisi.

Burnley enquired about the Australian international last season but were put off by a £1.5 million asking price.

But the former Portsmouth striker has since had a major bust-up with City boss Gordon Strachan and he could now be available for a knockdown price.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Matt Clarke finds himself in no-man's land after the euphoria of helping Bolton secure a place in the Premiership.

Transfer-listed by Bradford at his own request after being left out against Newcastle last December, he dropped down a division.

Now that his loan spell at Bolton has ended, the 27-year-old shot-stopper wonders what the close season will bring.
