EWOOD goal-ace Matt Jansen today admitted he's relishing the chance to impress England boss Sven Goran Eriksson when Rovers return to the big time next season.

The 23-year-old striker was in white-hot form last term, scoring 24 times as Rovers roared to promotion.

And, now he's back in the top-flight, he's hoping to stake a claim for an international call-up as Eriksson ushers in a whole new era.

"During last season the media hype surrounding Sven Goran Eriksson was incredible," said Jansen.

"Every time he turned up at a match the guessing game started about who he might be watching.

"And it was just the same when he saw our 4-1 win at Bolton.

"On that occasion I got the odd mention in the papers the following day which was very flattering but didn't pay too much attention to it at the time.

"But now we've been promoted to the Premier League I hope I will get a few more chances to impress Mr Eriksson.

"It really is the stage to play on.

"Since he came to England I think Mr Eriksson has only watched one Nationwide game.

"But I think that's fair enough.

"To play for your country I think you have to be playing your football, week-in week-out, in the top division.

"It makes sense really because you are up against the best players each game.

"So, hopefully, I'll have another good season next year and then I'll be knocking on the international door."

Jansen's form in the First Division last season won him a string of admirers. And former England skipper David Platt is just one of a host of pundits who are tipping him to have a similar impact in the Premiership.

"Matt was very impressive when Blackburn beat us at Ewood last season and he contributed a couple of goals that day," said Platt.

"He's got a lot of quality and I would expect him to do well in the Premier League next season.

"He also seems pretty level headed which should stand him in good stead."

As for Jansen, himself, he's relishing the prospect of pitting his wits against the best in the business again.

And he's looking forward to one fixture in particular - a trip up to Newcastle.

"Naturally, all the lads are relishing getting back in the top flight again," said Jansen.

"It's been a great season at Ewood and a special one for me because things have gone so well.

"But it will be great playing in the Premiership against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

"I'm really looking forward to playing against Newcastle.

"They were my childhood heroes and it will be a very special game for me up there.

"I just hope I can repeat what I did on my first visit there with Crystal Palace.

"I scored and we won 2-1.

"We know it won't be easy but I'm certain that as a squad and as a club we have what it takes to cope with the demands that will come our way next year.

"We have played quite a few Premier League sides over the past 12 months - both in friendly matches and cup games and we haven't done too badly overall.

"The FA Cup defeat at Arsenal was the only bad defeat we suffered.

"And quite a few sides have been punished for their mistakes at Arsenal this year."

"That's probably the big difference between Division One and the Premier League."

"You know that you are going to be punished if you make mistakes at either end of the field.

"If you get a chance you have to take it because you are unlikely to get too many.

"And if you let your guard slip in defence you can expect the opposition to take full advantage.

"But we are well aware of what it takes.

"It won't be as physical as being in Division One and you'll be allowed to play football which should suit us.

"Two of the teams that won promotion last year, Ipswich and Charlton, have prospered by playing good football and that is what we aim to do."
