A GROUP of walkers are getting back on track despite the recent confirmed cases of foot and mouth.

People are being invited to join members of the First Sunday Rambling Club on the first in a series of walks after their previously organised events were cancelled due to the farming crisis.

The group's first get together in the two months will take visitors on a three-mile stroll around Rivington and is expected to last about two and a half hours.

Organiser Eric Hatton said members were still aware of the recent foot and mouth outbreak in the area and said: "There are only limited rambles on offer and we are only starting with short walks which avoid farmers' fields.

"It is difficult to find walks that avoid restricted areas and the situation has obviously worsened considerably in the local area."

People wanting to go on the walk should meet on Darwen's roof top car park at 12.30pm on Sunday.
