A HOMELESS man spotted trying to lever his way into Padiham Kwik Save was desperately looking for food and drink.
Burnley Magistrates were told how Graham Charles Osborne, 46, was seen in the early hours trying to open the shutter doors with the steering column from a micro scooter.
Osborne, of Caldervale Guest House, Holmes Street, Burnley, admitted attempted burglary and was bailed until 13 June.
Tom Snape, prosecuting, said police heard noises as if somebody was interfering with the shop shutters.
Osborne was seen on his knees with a long piece of metal, attempting to prise open the shutters.
He was arrested and handcuffed and said the implement was the steering column from a micro scooter which he had found in a back street.
Osborne said he knew the shop was alarmed.
Chris Squibbs, defending, said the offence was opportunistic. Osborne had found himself without accommodation as he was in the process of being evicted.
