BLACKBURN with Darwen Citizens Advice Bureau is appealing for more volunteers to help provide free confidential and impartial advice to local people.

Ninety per cent of CAB workers are volunteers and their good work will be highlighted during the UK's Volunteers' Week between June 1 and June 7.

Around 21 million people in the UK spend an average of four hours a week volunteering and putting their energy and effort back into their local communities so this week will be used to praise their hard work.

Volunteer CAB worker Annette Woodruff, who works at the Bureau one day a week, said: "I signed up to help the CAB Service because I wanted a challenge.

"I feel I make a contribution to community life here in Blackburn.

"I know more about local services and consumer rights than ever before and I find it very stimulating."

Sue Seabridge, manager at Blackburn with Darwen CAB, added: "The challenge and variety that the CAB service offers and the fact that involvement really does improve job prospects are big attractions.

"Volunteering for the CAB offers a real chance to develop skills, knowledge and confidence and volunteers can arrange their hours around other commitments."
