AUDLEY Juniors 'A' will represent Blackburn with Darwen in the county finals of the Lord's Taverners Primary Schools Cricket Tournament.

Audley were in formidable form throughout the event and beat Holy Trinity in the final at Witton Park, Blackburn to book their place at Old Trafford on Wednesday, June 27.

The annual event attracted a total of 25 schools which was organised by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council in conjunction with the England and Wales Cricket Board and the English Schools Cricket Association.

The competition was so popular this year that it was split into daytime and evening sessions.

A consolation cup competition, for teams knocked out in the early rounds was also held, and Sudell beat St Silas in the final.

But it was Audley who proved to be the team of the event.

They beat St Peters RC in the first round by 99 run, scoring a total of 262 in their allotted overs.

The knockout specialists then booked their place in the quarter finals after running up a total of 285 to beat St James CE by 37 runs.

It was an all Audley Juniors quarter final clash with the 'B' team running up an impressive 211 total. But the 'A' teams batting power was too much as they put together a score of 253. Audley's ability to score consistently -- they didn't drop below 250 -- was the secret of the success and they moved into the final with a fine battle against fellow high scorers St Michael with St John. Typically, they saved the best for last and their 282 total was the highest of the tournament -- beating St Michael and St John's 281 in the quarter final win against St Cuthberts.
