THERE were smiles all round when Parr youngsters popped in to see the dentist during National Smile Week.

Accompanied by their mums, toddlers were given the star treatment when they turned up at the dental clinic in Irwin Road, Sutton as part of a Sure Start Parr initiative to raise awareness about oral health and the links between healthy eating and healthy teeth.

There were toys to play with and rides on a dental chair as dental health promotion officer Erica Box and Mel Goddard, Sure Start's child health information project worker, explained what a trip to the dentist involves.

As part of its work with Parr families who have young children, Sure Start is now launching a child health promotion campaign to encourage early registration with dentists and other health professionals.

A reward scheme is also being introduced for regular appointment attendance for three-year-olds. All families who join Mel's Healthy Tots Club will receive a starter pack of books on their first visit to the dentist or doctor.
