POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two young girls were knocked down as they crossed the road.
Claire Hardman, 12, and friend Kasha Jackson, nine, were walking across Bury Road, near to the junction with Lomas Lane, in Rawtenstall, when they were in collision with a blue Peugeot 106 driven by Sarah Teale, 21, of Horncliffe Close, Rawtenstall.
Claire, of Maitland Place, Rawtenstall, was taken to Bury General Hospital with a broken ankle.
Kasha, also of Maitland Place, received facial bruising in the accident, which happened on Tuesday at about 1.10pm.
PC Rod Graham, of Rawtenstall traffic police, said he was anxious to speak to any witnesses and asked for anyone with information to call on 01706 237464.
