WILPSHIRE racing cyclist Dave Ebbrell scored his best-ever track success when he was outright winner of the prestigious Lewis Cup over 10 miles at the two-day Eddie Soens Memorial meeting held at the Kirkby Stadium last weekend.

This was the cream on the cake for the Blackburn and District CTC team of eight riders who performed well against national level competition from across England, Wales and Scotland.

Ebbrell was also winner of the earlier 16 lap points race with Langho's Paul Smith fourth whilst Ian Stott took a very creditable third in the Devil Take The Hindmost and Burnley rider Ian Barnett riding for the Clayton Velo took an excellent second in the 16 lap scratch race.

In the weekly Wednesday meeting on the same track, 15-year-old Richard Hek of Rishton scored three third places in different youth events, Ian Yates of Blackburn was winner of the eight-lap A Class event with Paul Smith of Langho second and the same two took the similar placings in the A Class Devil race in which Tony Stott clinched third place.

In the main event of the evening the Deeside Decider Matt Sewell of Southport was winner but the local club had Paul Smith second and Darwen's Dave Collinge third.

Dave Ebbrell followed up his success on Sunday with another one on Tuesday evening when he was a convincing winner of the Ribble Valley CRC 10 mile time trial at Garstang with a time of 21mins 45secs.

In this event Pendle Forest's Jason Bateman of Earby was well placed with 22mins 27secs and it was good to see Blackburn's Julian Markham riding his first solo event for several years at the age of 35. Julian still officially holds the North Lancashire TTA Juvenile 25 mile record with 56mins 42secs set at the age of 15 in 1981.

Veteran Kerry of Egerton was another to beat 25mph with a 23min 58sec ride.
