WITH St Asaph pulling out of the league, Rainhill first and second teams had no games leaving the spotlight on the Sunday XI at the weekend.

They took on the under 15s at Victoria Terrace on Sunday with the youngsters electing to bat first.

All-rounder Liam Pearson (76 not out) and Conor Morris (32) were the pick of the batsmen, with Andrew Dickinson taking six wickets and Ross Strachan three as the under 15s finished on 148 all out.

In reply, the Sunday XI got off to a good start with Lewis Gordon scoring three successive fours. But once he was out there was a mini collapse.

That brought Graham Pink in to steady the innings with a cultured 36. Mark Coulson returned to the side after a four-year absence and was unbeaten on 24, while Andy Birkett hit a quickfire 30 before being cleaned bowled by Liam Pearson who took 3-36.

The middle order and tail end couldn't cope with Matthew Dooling's leg breaks as he took three wickets and the game ended in a draw with the Sunday XI unable to get the required 20 off the last over.

Last week the Sunday XI hung on for a draw against Singlehurst at Victoria Terrace.

Batting first, the visitors were all out for a modest 116 with up and coming off-spinner Andrew Dickinson taking 3-28.

In reply, Rainhill collapsed to 10-4 at one stage but an unbeaten 33 by Andrew Birkett enabled them to hang on at 86-9.
