lI HAD to smile at an amusing article in the latest copy of Linkline, the magazine from Wigan and Leigh Pensioners' Link.

It's fitting for those born before 1940 and a variation on a similar theme I've seen for younger readers.

It read: "Those were the days when a Big Mac was an oversized raincoat and crumpet was what we had for tea.

"A chip was a piece of wood or fried potato, hardware was nuts and bolts and software wasn't even a word.

"If you came from Lancashire, a litre was what you lit a cigarette with, made in Japan meant junk and Camp was a coffee which could brown legs for girls with no nylons.

"A joint was a piece of meat for Sunday, and pot was something you cooked in."

I dread to think what comparisons will be made in another 60 years time.
