LEIGH Athletic FC crowned their first season in the Manchester League by securing the first division championship.
Their record of 23 wins and only three defeats gave them a four point winning margin over closest rivals New Mills and Breightmet United.
Danny Wilson was the leading scorer with 35 goals.
The Reserves fell away at the end of the season to finish a disappointing fourth in Division Three but grabbed their moment of glory at New Mills when they defeated East Manchester 3-2 in the Open Trophy final.
Leigh manager Andy Pickles has been forced to resign due to business and family commitments. Applications for the vacant post are invited and should be made to the chairman on 01942-518328 or in writing to 6, Hale Close, Leigh, WN7 3DY.
