A TEENAGER missing from home for more than a week has been reunited with her mother - thanks to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Edith Humphreys, 38, of Queens Road West, Church, had almost given up hope of finding her daughter Ann-Marie, 19, alive, 10 days after the troubled youngster disappeared from outside Blackburn Royal Infirmary when staff had discharged her.

The teenager, who suffers from depression, had been found collapsed in Willow Street, Accrington and was taken to the hospital Accident and Emergency unit.

But a relieved Mrs Humphreys was delighted when she received a phone call from a friend of the 19-year-old, who said he had dropped her at the family home.

Ann-Marie was walking home after she saw her picture on the front page of the Evening Telegraph and the driver spotted her outside the sports centre on Dill Hall Lane. A

ccrington police are still trying to establish what exactly happened to Ann-Marie while she was away from home.

Mrs Humphreys said: "She saw herself in the newspaper and realised how much she wanted to go home.

"Who knows what would have happened if she hadn't seen the article and we were starting to fear the worst.

"I would also like to thank my family and Accrington police because they were so supportive of us."

Detective Inspector Steve Ashley said: "I am pleased to say that Ann-Marie has now returned home and we are all relieved she is safe and well.

"She returned having seen her photo in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph and I would like to thank the newspaper for publicising this case.

"I would also like to thank the concerned members of the public who contacted us in effort to trace Ann-Marie."
