A FACTORY threatened with closure has been given a reprieve.

Peter Miles Engineering, which was about to shut down its Hindsford engineering works, says more than 20 jobs have been saved there and a further five or six vacancies have been created at the company's Leigh headquarters.

Mr Miles this week told the Journal: "At the Atherton factory we were going to make everyone redundant but in the end there were only three job losses alkthough some people did leave of their own accord.

"Twenty-odd jobs have been saved in the short term. Two redundancies had been declared at Leigh but now new business means we neeed five or six more employees."
