BAD weather halted Preston's recent resurgence as their match against Lancaster on Saturday had to be abandoned due to rain after the West Cliff side had reached 31 for 0.

The resulting four points will be seen as a blow as they would have hoped for maximum points gainst the bottom placed club and getting within reach of a top four place which will enable them to compete in the Lancashire Knockout next season.

The match was the last of the season for skipper Tony Hesketh who resumes his football duties as manager of Lancaster City this weekend.

Leyland enjoyed better luck, gaining maximum 12 points after beating beating Morecambe by three wickets.

Leyland Motors gained a winning draw at Darwen despite ionly scoring 87.
