DAREDEVIL pensioner Ken Taylor has gained a high-profile supporter for his latest sponsored sky dive for charity.

The 72-year-old from Parr (already familiar to Star readers for his previous exploits) will take off for his third parachute jump from Tilstock airfield in Shropshire on Saturday, August 18 with the backing of St Helens South MP, Shaun Woodward.

Ken, who worked as a sign painter at BICC cable company for 42 years, has become one of the most active fund-raisers in the area since his retirement. Instead of putting his feet up, he has been jumping out of planes, raising £1,500 in 1999 and £2,484 last year.

And he has already received pledges worth £2,500 for his latest jump.

Ken chose to champion Cancer Research after the death of his brother from cancer and a cancer scare of his own.

Shaun Woodward, said: "I am delighted to support Ken. His energy, commitment and selflessness are an example to all of us at all ages. I would say that I would like to be like him when I am 72 -- the truth is I would be proud to be like him when I am 47!

"Anyone wishing to make a pledge to support his jump can contact my office on 01744 24226, or drop in at 107 Corporation Street and we will pass your details on to Ken. It's a fantastic cause and Ken is a great champion".
