LOCAL Families are reaping the rewards of Labour's Working Families Tax Credit, claims Labour MP for St Helens North, Dave Watts.

Dave said: "The latest Government figures show that around 2080 families in St Helens North are benefiting from Labour's Working Families Tax Credit.

"It is worth an average of £30 a week for families with children and is crucial if we are going to tackle child poverty."

"In addition to this the Children's Tax Credit is a Labour tax cut for families with children. Worth up to £520 per year for families with a child under 16."

"These measures are part of Labour's ambitions for children and families.

"Combined with a record rise in Child Benefit and better maternity provision we are tackling child poverty, supporting families while their children are growing up and making work pay."

"Alongside this, we are seeing greater investment in giving children a better start in life. Last week's announcement of funding for 250 more nursery places in the borough is another example of the Government supporting with families with children."

"In the coming months, Labour will combine all the support available for families into a single tax credit to make it easier to gain and we will maintain the value of Child benefit throughout the Parliament.

"The Government is now consulting on plans for the new integrated tax credit and will hold a consultation meeting in our region this autumn."
