A MOBILE camera which can be moved from place to place to keep an eye on local troublespots has chalked up a string of successes.
The high-tech CCTV has been used in Golborne to monitor unruly and anti-social behaviour such as underage drinking.
More than 30 arrests have been made since it was bought by the Wigan Council's land and property department.
Wigan Council's security manager, Alan Whitney, said: "This camera has been a real success story. We can deploy it very quickly to locations across the borough, and since we bought it last March it has contributed to at least 30 arrests.
"We are working in partnership with the police, our highways department and local councillors, and there is no doubt that the investment in this camera system has a real impact on the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour."
Divisional police Chief Superintendent Peter Owen added: "This is an excellent example of the partnership in action between Greater Manchester Police and Wigan Council, and illustrates the significant impact that CCTV technology is having reducing crime and anti-social behaviour."
