INVESTMENT of over £150 million is needed to bring Pendle's private housing stock up to standard.
Pendle Council will on Thursday hold a "state of the borough' debate and be asked to invite the housing minister to the area to see at first hand the housing conditions of Pendle and the rest of East Lancashire.
Council leader Azhar Ali has also suggested that the government and Regional Development Agency should consider a pilot scheme for East Lancashire by supporting a project to attract private sector investment into brownfield sites and creating a revitalised private sector housing market.
Sixty five per cent of housing stock in Pendle is in council tax band A and Coun Ali recommends that the government should be asked to introduce a lower council tax band for properties with a value of under £25,000.
He is also asking the council to recognise the need to have a number of renewal areas initiated and running simultaneously and for necessary resources to be made available.
