SHAKERS boss Andy Preece launched a scathing attack on his players after defeat at Huddersfield.

He said the majority were naive and "lacking something up top".

"Sometimes we are so naive it's like you have to write down something for someone to do and they have to learn it 100 times before it goes in their head," explained Preece.

"There's things we've been working on in training week in week out and still it's not gone in their heads. I'm afraid there must be something not mentally quite right with the players if they can't take that in."

The Bury manager was desperately disappointed with the manner of defeat at Huddersfield and said he needed new players.

However, getting them might not be easy because Preece admitted the club's scouting system is not what it should be.

"Having the time to play, coach, go out and watch other players is a difficult task," said Preece.

"We do need staff to be watching matches and unfortunately in our position we haven't got the money to pay people to go out and watch matches.

"But that's not an excuse, it's been the same since I got the job. I'm just trying to highlight the point of Michael Nelson and the hunger that he shows coming from non-league. It's identifying players like that. We need to do that because some don't quite show the same will to win and that disappoints me.

"I can identify areas where we need players but it's just having the time and the staff to get out there and get the ones we want in."
