A ROSSENDALE man who dishonestly tried to obtain money from a pawnbroker by deception, using a cheque not belonging to him, left a clue to his identity -- his thumbprint, a court was told.
Michael John Brooks, 49, of Wellington Terrace, Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, was before the magistrates at Rochdale admitting he used false representations in attempting to cash a cheque to the value of £57 at Kings pawnbrokers in Rochdale town centre.
Brooks was given a 60 hours community punishment order and ordered him to pay £118 court costs.
Miss Claire Stevens, prosecuting, said Brooks had presented a cheque made out to J Pemberton at Kings and was asked to show identification.
He had none, so he was asked to fill in a form and provide a thumbprint, which he did.
