YOUR picture (LET, August 20) demonstrated the obscenity of bull fighting.

For an hour the magnificent bull is disorientated, in pain from endless stabbings by six matadors and moments from death from several thrusts by sword prolonging the bull's suffering.

At least 30,000 die every year. Rarely is a matador seriously injured.

In Britain, bloodsports are cruel and a disgrace. When we set an example by banning such perverse activities our European neighbours may follow.

This is 2001, not 1801.
