COMMENTING on speed cameras, Mike Catterall (Letters, August 21) asks if everyone who drives has to suffer because of an inconsiderate minority.
How would he define this 'inconsiderate minority?' -- perhaps someone driving at 50mph in a 30mph zone? Or at 40mph? Maybe 35mph?
The only people who suffer because of speed cameras are those who break the speed limit. Regardless of the location and visibility of the camera, that is the undeniable truth.
All motorists have a duty of care to other road users and pedestrians and that includes keeping to speed limits. How many more times must we hear of someone being killed in a road traffic accident caused by excessive speed?
We are all guilty on occasion of speeding. We want to get there quicker, or we're late, or just enjoying the driving experience. But, as the saying goes: "If you can't do the time, don't do the crime."
Speed cameras are a necessary evil because we, as motorists, refuse to keep to prescribed speed limits.
