Leigh RMI 1 Northwich Victoria 2 by David Magilton

A GOAL three minutes from time robbed Leigh of a point against early pacesetters Northwich.

The visitors had dominated the early exchanges and taken the lead three minutes after the break, but RMI battled their way back, grabbed an equaliser and looked the side most likely to snatch victory.

Instead a well worked Northwich move saw them grab the winner leaving Leigh manager Steve Waywell bemoaning his sides inability to put away their chances.

"We have not got that killer instinct in front of goal," he complained. "We are creating chances but the players have not got that desire in front of goal.

"We had a lot of chances especially in the second-half but failed to put them away. I thought we could have won the game but they scored a great goal.

"It should not have got to that stage as we should have broken it down earlier on. We are powder puff in front of goal. We are not making the keepers work hard."

Northwich went ahead in the 48th minute when Adie Mike fed the ball through to Greg Blundell and he cracked home a powerful shot.

Composure

RMI equalised in the 75th minute when Dave Ridings slipped the ball to Ian Monk and the winger kept his composure to beat a defender before firing the ball home.

Dave German miscued his shot with an open goal before him and despite late pressure from Leigh, it was Northwich who grabbed their third win in four games when Mark Bailey's cross found Richard Norris unmarked and his header left keeper Dave Felgate stranded.
