FRIENDS of the Earth want to replace their Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley group with clubs for each area, in a bid to attract more members.

They hope more people would be willing to get involved if they had a shorter distance to travel for meetings.

In the past, the group has campaigned on GM foods, local transport issues, incinerators and air pollution.

Group co-ordinator Hayley Reed said: "Friends of the Earth is a group that believes in giving ordinary citizens a voice in the fight to protect our environment.

"We are always interested to hear from people who would like to get involved. It's easy to join, it's fun and it's good for the planet.

"Our branch often receives enquiries from people who are interested in topical issues like incineration, GM foods and air pollution, but find the meetings at Whalley too far to travel."
