THOUSANDS of people crammed into Blackburn town centre for the highlight of Blackburn's Fiesta weekend.

A 300-strong procession wound its way around the town centre with spectacular and colourful floats which rivalled those on show at the more famous Notting Hill Carnival.

Street performers from across the country also attended the event, which was culmination of four months hard work involving more than 1,000 people.

The Fiesta weekend was the third major event organised by Blackburn with Darwen Council as part of its 150th celebrations.

Throughout the weekend, a series of outdoor entertainments were laid on across the town.

Samba bands, including some of the very best in the UK, played and there were were impromptu acts of live theatre.

On Sunday and yesterday, a street market was held, with bargain hunters and collecters milling around the town. Tarot card readers also busy.

Local bands were given their chance to shine at an event held outside the Town Hall on Saturday night.
