SOUNESS has ruled out the possibility of going into the transfer market for another striker, despite his disappointment at the amount of chances currently going begging.

Rovers were left to rue a host of golden opportunities against Sunderland on Saturday as they crashed to a frustrating 1-0 defeat. But Souness still has faith in his current strike-force even though he insists they need to start finding the back of the net.

"The amount of chances we are missing at the moment is a bit of a worry because goals change games and if we are scoring goals then matches like Saturday suddenly take on a different complexion," said Souness.

"But we've got people here who have scored goals for us in the past and they will score goals for us in the future."

Souness is hoping his striking options will be boosted by the return of £6.75 million summer signing Ciccio Grabbi in time for tomorrow's Worthington Cup clash with Oldham at Ewood.

The 26-year-old striker was forced to miss Saturday's trip to Sunderland with a recurrence of a sciatica problem.

But the injury has responded to further treatment since the weekend and, if he gets the thumbs up from Rovers' medical staff, then Souness is considering throwing him straight back in against the Latics.

"Ciccio missed Saturday's game because he still wasn't right but if he is passed fit then I'll start with him tomorrow," said the Rovers boss.
