REGARDING Mr H Robinson's suggestion (Letters, September 14) for a bounty to be put on the return of NHS walking aids, I don't know about bounty, but why not charge for the 'loan' of any item taken into patients' homes?

On return of the item, they would get their money returned less a percentage for administration. Surely, it's not asking too much and it would ensure the equipment is then returned as it should be.

We take all these aids for granted and many people keep them long after the need for them has passed.

The NHS comes in for criticism, but when you're abroad you have to purchase all your own items such as crutches at £30 a pair, to name but one item.
