REGARDING Ron Crane's remarks about the 'Flying Saucer' sculpture at Blackburn Cathedral (Letters, September 6), he has not got his facts right.

First, the sculpture is stainless steel clad with patinated copper, stitched together with stainless steel wire.

Second, art experts from the Cathedral Fabric Commission for England approved the piece of work.

Third, the artist, Mark Jalland, did not take £100,000 of 'our' money back to Holland, £100,000 was the total cost of the sculpture.

The materials, labour and equipment all had to be paid for and Mr Jalland used local companies for all his supplies. This meant that local people were kept in employment and the money paid for the materials goes back into the local economy.

Finally, Mr Jalland is no more a Dutchman than you or I.
