ICOULD not believe my eyes when I read Leslie Jones' remarks (Letters, September 5), but while I agree that there are a large number of untidy women in Blackburn and Darwen, I would certainly not go as far as to say that it is 99.99 per cent of them.
The attitude of a lot of Blackburn residents puts some ladies off wearing overly nice clothes for fear of either being leered at by dirty old men, or verbally attacked by groups of youths.
I would also like to point out -- "Look at the state of some of the men!" Is Mr Jones trying to say that the women are untidy but the men are all top-to-toe dashing and smartly dressed, because they most certainly are not!
I find Mr Jones' comment 'Women knew their place then -- in the kitchen,' totally outrageous. Would he he prefer it if all the ladies who serve him in his local shops and probably nurse him in his old age gave up their jobs?
