A GROUP is staging a free seminar to help parents of people with learning disabilities construct a will.

The Royal Society Mencap will take over the Higher Trapp Country Club Hotel, Simonstone, to give them advice on how to leave money to their sons and daughters.

Mencap provides help and campaigns for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It is estimated that 1.2 million people have a learning disability in the UK.

Ian Winstanley, Mencap's assistant district officer for Lancashire, said: "Many parents of people with learning disabilities worry about how best to provide for their sons or daughters when they are gone.

"Many make arrangements which they believe to be suitable, but often money is wasted or is not used to the best effect.

"By providing this seminar, we hope to help parents of people with learning disabilities arrange their affairs for maximum benefit."

The seminar starts at 10am on October 16 and will be conducted by solicitor Hugh Jones, who specialises in wills and trusts.

People wanting to attend should call 0161 888 1202.
