POULTON is to bid for funding under a new scheme to improve the way local streets are used.
Lancaster city council has put the area forward for funding under the Government's Home Zone initiative.
The scheme will look at how road space is shared between motor vehicles and other users, including walkers and cyclists.
It aims to change the way streets are used and improve the quality of life in residential areas.
Currently, 14 pilot schemes are being run and the Government has invited bids for £30m in extra funding. Lancashire will submit a maximum of three projects and bid for up to £1.5m of funding.
Lancaster's cabinet member for community services, Cllr David Barker said: " Poulton is designated as a housing renewal area and, in the consultation leading up to that designation, traffic issues were identified as an area for concern for residents. Other areas such the Marsh, Ryelands, Skerton and the West End of Morecambe, were considered but were not felt to offer the same chance of success. They will be considered for potential future schemes.
