A DISABLED youngster has been given a new lease of life since his family moved into a newly-built specially-designed bungalow.

Muhammed Ahmed and his family are the first of three to benefit from moving into the new accommodation in Bradshaw Street, Nelson.

Nine-year-old Muhammed is unable to use his legs and is confined to a wheelchair. At his previous home he was unable to move easily about the house but the new bungalow has been designed to give him easy access to every room and the garden.

His father, Saleem, said: "Muhammed always used to be stuck in one room all day. Now, thanks to B&N Housing, he has a new lease of life. We cannot believe that a difference the new home has made to our lives."

The bungalows, owned by the Burnley-based housing and caring organisation, were completed by local builder Barnfield Construction.

The three bungalows have been specifically designed to suit the need of disabled families.

Features include adjustable height kitchen worktops, widened doorways and level access shower rooms.

Simon Parker, regional manager at the housing group office in Burnley said: "We are pleased that Muhammed's new home means so much to him and his family."

B&N has worked closely with Pendle Council and Lancashire's Social service Department to make sure the specific needs of each of the three families were met as closely as possible.
