THE daughter of Hyndburn MP Greg Pope, who was within a mile of the New York terrorist attack which killed almost 6,000 people, returned home today.

Student Roisin, 20, will never forget the the attack on the World Trade Centre which was destroyed by suicide pilots more than a week ago.

She was staying with her uncle John Fallon, who lives 20 miles from Manhattan and had an office in the World Trade Centre, on a four week holiday in the United States .

Roisin had been touring the city and taking in the sights, including the World Trade Centre, and returned home without cutting her holiday short.

She was met by relieved parents Greg and Kate at Heathrow Airport this morning and will be returning to the family home in Blackburn to spend a few days recuperating before going back to college.

Mr Pope told how he had been trying all day to make contact with her when tragedy happened last Tuesday and eventually found out that evening that she was safe.

Mr Pope said: "She was upset and shaken last week but she's feeling fine now.

"She was able to go back to Manhattan and I think it was important she did that. She's a very sensible young woman and we are relieved she is okay.

"Her uncle works for Pearson who had offices in the World Trade Centre and he was preoccupied with finding out who was safe. Luckily they were all okay."
