A GROUP marked their 125th anniversary by taking a time capsule dressed as a baby on a Journey of Hope.

Pendle Deanery Mothers' Union put their mission statement of support for marriage and family life into the canister, and went around the area to raise awareness of their work.

They set off from Holy Trinity Church, Colne, to the town's ASDA store, copying the national celebrations at Westminster Abbey, where the 'journey of hope' began in June.

The presiding member Mrs Margaret Taylor, the Mayor of Pendle Coun Colin Waite, and Mothers' Union members accompanied the capsule on a vintage bus to drive round the parishes of Pendle.

Mrs Taylor said: "We wanted to raise awareness of the work of the Mothers' Union.

"There are more than a million members worldwide, involved in a wide range of projects. We have volunteer workers in hospitals, prisons and contract centres, organise parenting courses, debt counselling and drug awareness."
