A MAN went berserk in a Blackburn pub after being warned over a row with his girlfriend, a court heard.

Blackburn magistrates heard that the temporary manageress was hit on the head with a bar stool, optics, bottles and glass were smashed and another bar stool was thrown through the juke box.

And the court was told that the violent outburst only came to an end after Ian John Mounsey was hit over the head with a pool cue by another customer at the Hole House Inn on Burnley Road.

Mounsey, 40, of Lester Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to affray and damage.

He was made subject to a community rehabilitation order for 12 months and ordered to pay £180 compensation and £65 costs.

Richard Prew, defending, said Mounsey, who works at Caligen Foam, Accrington, was utterly ashamed of his behaviour.

"It is unfortunate that it takes something like this to bring him to his senses and realise that his drinking is excessive and he needs to do something about it," said Mr Prew.

The magistrates passed sentence after reading a pre-sentence report.
