CARL FOGARTY has suffered a broken leg during testing with the factory CCM supermoto team at Anglesey, North Wales.

The Blackburn ace was preparing for the biggest supermoto race ever, at Mettet, Belgium next month.

Eye witnesses say he lost the front of his £5,000 CCM 640 and became tangled up with the bike as it cart-wheeled.

Wife Michaela said: " I have been told they are going to give him a general anaesthetic and manipulate the bones back into place. They will hopefully send him home today. "

It's expected it will take eight weeks for Foggy to recover.

The decision to manipulate the bones back into place rather than operate came as the bone had not broken through the skin, hence reducing the risk of infection that an operation may have caused.

Fogarty will now miss the Belgian race which is a big blow to him as he was relishing the chance to get back on track after the former world Superbike champion's career was ended after he slid off at high speed in a race at Australia's Philip Island circuit.
