THE chairman of Todmorden Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society has forfeited his moustache for the sake of art!

David Winslow will play a Native American in the Youth Theatre production of Calamity Jane but to make the role authentic, he has had to shave off his whiskers.

David is quite happy about having the opportunity to display his theatrical talents on stage, but his wife Gillian, Wardrobe Mistress for the production, says she is a little apprehensive about how he is going to look without a moustache. She has never seen him clean-shaven.

David was saying farewell to his moustache during the dress rehearsal this weekend.

The show, which begins tomorrow, is a light-hearted look at life in the mid-west in the 1860's and the romance which blossoms between Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.

The show will run from tomorrow to Saturday at the Hippodrome Theatre on Halifax Road, and tickets are £5 and £3.50 concessions. On the opening night all tickets are £3.50.

They are available from Todmorden Tourist Information Centre on 01706 818181 or from booking secretary Sylvia Sutcliffe on 01706 813655.
