STUDENTS from ethnic minority groups living in Pendle will be attending an event tomorrow night to celebrate their success.
The event, organised by the Ethnic Minority Benevolent Association, is designed to highlight the achievements of ethnic minority students from local schools and colleges, and takes place at the Civic Theatre, Nelson, from 7.20pm. It's the first time an event of this kind has been held in East Lancashire.
It is part of EMBA's work with ethnic minority parents to raise understanding of the education system, so they can become more involved with children's progress.
Various presentations will be made, all of which fall into one of three categories:
Young People: Students from local schools and colleges who are high achievers, or who have achieved beyond expectation or who have made a good contribution to the life of their school
Women who have completed a confidence-building course
Members of the ethnic business community who undertook a course in book-keeping.
Guests include Coun Colin Waite, Mayor of Pendle, and Coun Rafiq Malik, Deputy Mayor of Burnley.
