WHEN she came to Burnley in April, 1964, 16-year-old Jamaican pop singer Millie was riding high in the charts after her disc, My Boy, Lollipop, shot to No.2.
She signed autographs for fans who jammed a Market Street record shop, was given a civic reception at the Town Hall and lunched with the Mayor and Mayoress at the town's Locarno Ballroom where she performed for even more fans.
But it was at Burnley General Hospital where she was the biggest hit -- with kiddies in the children's ward where she distributed lollipops.
Pictured here with her young admirers, Millie was also surprised to find four Jamaican nurses working on the ward, one of whom was from her home town.
