WINNING awards is all in a day's work for Chapman Envelopes of Eccleshill, Darwen.

Over the past few months, the company has scooped no fewer than four awards for its commitment to training and safety.

Managing director Tom Anders and management sytems officer Brian Mizon have become regulars at glittering awards ceremonies in London.

Chapman Envelopes is part of the French GPV group which is Europe's second largest envelope manufacturer. The company employs 140 people at its Grimshaw Bridge works which produces a staggering 30 million envelopes a week.

Its first honour came when it was presented with a certificate in recognition of its maintaining its Investors in People status.

The first trip to London was to collect a top prize at the British Safety Council's national awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

The Chapman management then had to return to the capital for the British Printing Industries Federation Excellence Awards at the Dorchester Hotel.

Chapman Envelopes won two awards - one for the company's commitment to the training and development of its employees and the second for Brian Mizon who is now responsible for quality, environment and health and safety issues.

"We are delighted to have done so well with these awards," said Brian. "It underlines our commitment to the development and welfare of our employees."

With Chapman Envelopes being French-owned, 25 staff from sales and administration have had language training in conjunction with Blackburn College to improve day-to-day communication.
