RESIDENTS in a Blackburn road say they fear that their children could be in danger after a dog savaged and killed a cat.

People living in Haslingden Road are now calling for something to be done about the Staffordshire Bull Terrier-type dog that they say is responsible for the recent attack and several others in the area.

Pet owner Derrick Jackson said he feared the next to be attacked by the dog could be a child or a grown-up.

He added: "This dog has been constantly causing problems throughout the area for a good number of months now.

"But as residents we feel that the last resort was when it killed the cat a couple of days ago.

"We have a little Yorkshire Terrier, but we are scared to take it out for exercise now because we don't know what this dog might do or is capable of.

"We are forever looking over our shoulders when we go out and want it to stop now.

"The really worrying thing is that it could be a child that it goes for next time."

The owner of the dead cat named Suzie, Angela Krause, 27, is upset after the loss of her family's pet.

She said: "Something really needs to be done about these animals because it's not fair that other pet owners are living in fear.

"These kind of dogs should be kept under control."

A police spokesman said they were aware of the incident involving the cat and that they were currently investigating the fears.
