ANOTHER two points were dropped in a game that Blackpool should have won comfortabley.

Cambridge, are nothing more than a average division two side at the best of times but when you couple the fact that they also had an injury crisis prior to the game, you can understand why the majority of Blackpool supporters left Bloomfield Road at 5 o'clock extremely disappointed.

There were two changes to the team that won against QPR on Tuesday night.

Richie Wellens pulled out with a late calf injury and was replaced by Simpson in the centre of midfield, while Phil Thompson came into the centre of defence after O'Kane was suspended.

Incidently the recently transfer listed John Murphy remained in the starting line-up keeping out Graham Fenton despite his equalsing goal in the match against QPR.

Cambridge had the better start an caused a few problems in the opening minutes. But on Pool broke and in their first attack of the game, opened the scoring.

The goal was not too dissimilar to the Blackpools fouth goal in the playoff final back in May.

Like in the Millenium stadium on that day, Paul Simpson found Hills on the left side who in turn crossed for Ormerod to poke home his 9th of the season after only 4 minutes.

Cambridge immediantly hit back and within minutes of the Blackpools opening goal they ahd the ball in the back of the net themselves.

But Dave Kitson's diving header was ruled offside by the linesman to the relief of the Blackpool defence.

Minutes later and Cambridge's Armand One was given a glorious chance to make sure the visitors got an equaliser.

But when the big 6 ft striker was faced one and one with Pool keeper Jamie Pullen he seemed to be caught in two minds and eventually his attempt was comfortabley saved.

Although Blackpool weren't without their chances to double the lead at the other end. There was a string of coners and a frantic goal mouth scramble in what has seemed to become a regular occurance at Bloomfield Road this season.

After the break Blackpool began to apply more pressure to the Cambridge defence, and almost all the pressure was coming from the home team - though this did not stop the defence looking shaky when the visitors did make an attack.

The Blackpool pressure was coming from where it usually comes when they are playing well, with attacks up the left by Hills and Simpson, and the right by Bullock and Ormerod, supported by Coid.

Too many times, however, good approach work was spoilt by a poor final ball, or by weak finishing.

But gradually Cambridge began to get back into the game and by the 80th minute the visitors had Blackpool pinned back in their own half after a string of corners.

Eventually Cambridge made one of the corners count when Dave Kitson headed home unmarked to level the scores.

With the Seasiders all out of ideas the game ended without further scoring to the jeers of a disappointed and fustrated Bloomfield Road crowd.

Having done quite well in a difficult start to the season, Blackpool had their first test today against lower-level opposition, and they failed to take the chance.
