We've just had one of the warmest Octobers on record which is the probably the reason why one local football league has yet to have a league fixture postponed.

The Blackburn Sunday League has had one of its best starts to a season in recent years, prompting 'stat man' John Haydock to reach for the record books again.

And sure enough, it was back in the 1978/79 season when the league went throughout September and October without losing a game to the weather.

But before you start to think everything is fine and dandy then John has a word of warning.

He said: "That particular season we had a great start but then it all went wrong regarding the weather and it turned out to be the worst on record.

"I hope this season's start is not a bad omen!"

Still in the Blackburn Sunday League and Division Two side White Bull are on the lookout for a goalkeeper.

Anyone interested in taking up the position should get in contact with Paul Brown on 01254 671227 or Steve Dudgeon on 01254 680298.

Blackburn with Darwen Council's Sports Development team are looking for year six and seven boys and girls to take part in a rugby union training programme.

The programme, which is being held in conjunction with Blackburn RUFC, is a 10 week course at Shadsworth Leisure Centre from Monday, November 12.

Deadline date is November 7 and costs £15.

I am very proud to say I picked up my first ever winners trophy this week at a special cermony on Sunday night -- it was handed to me in the pub!

Yes, at the tender age of 33, I now have a football trophy to add to my leather book mark I won for winning a table tennis tournament as a 15-year-old on a cruise to Madeira and Casablanca.

As I probably mentioned in this column before, the team I play for, Alarms and Commnications, won the East Lancs Summer seven-a-side League Division Three title.

Andy Jackson won the manager of the season award and Craig Foulds won the player of the season award.

I bet they didn't get stupid book marks!

Well done to Darwen Ladies FC who I feature in last week's Sport Extra. The Senior side beat Preston 8-5 while the under 14s beat Blackpool 6-1 to go clear at the top of the table.
