THE flags were flying when more than 100 soldiers from the First Battalion of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment brought Blackburn centre to a halt as they marched to celebrate their Freedom of the Borough.
Crowds gathered as the soldiers, based in Alma Barracks, Catterick, marched from the town hall, past King George's Hall and back to mark the Freedom.
Blackburn Mayor Coun John Williams saw the regiment mark its right to "march through the town with bayonets fixed, drums beating and colours flying".
They marched to the sounds of the King's Division Normandy Band and the regiment's corps of drums.
The event was the first official engagement of the new Colonel of the regiment, Brigadier Geoff Sheldon, who took the salute.
Veterans from the regimental association marched, plus 10 members of Canada's Loyal Edmonton Regiment.
