RAMSBOTTOM boss Mike Kelly is looking for strike pair Jamie Taylor and Russ Brierley to continue banging in the goals.

The Rams beat Great Harwood 5-0 on Tuesday with a hat-trick from top scorer Brierley and two from former Rochdale frontman Taylor, his first goals for the club.

"They have played three games together now," said Kelly, whose side travel to Prescot Cables in the Worthington Challenge Trophy Second Round tomorrow.

"Russ can't get any better and it is nice to see them form a partnership but it is at the back that we have problems."

Ramsbottom are without the long-term injured Warren Brierley in defence and lost centre half Mike Smith to Rossendale in the summer.

The backline may be the problem but it is a striker that Kelly has in his sights. He has put seven days on Feniscowles forward Paul Masherta, fuelling speculation that Russ Brierley might be on his way.

Brierley, who is on a contract at the Riverside, has been the subject of approaches by big-spenders Salford City and UniBond First Division neighbours Rossendale. Kelly, though, said that the moves for Brierley were dead.

He said of Masherta: "I have heard that he is an excellent forward, playing well below what he is capable."
