ROVERS defender Jeff Kenna has jumped at the chance of a loan move to Wigan as he sets about the task of resurrecting his career.

Kenna agreed to join the Latics yesterday -- intially for a month -- following an enquiry from manager Paul Jewell.

And he looked set to make his debut in Wigan's Second Division clash at Peterborough this afternoon.

"Obviously, things weren't working out for me at Blackburn so when I got told about Wigan's interest after training yesterday, I jumped at the chance to go there for a month," said Kenna.

"It's been really frustrating not being involved in the first team at Rovers.

"I still feel I've got something to offer the club but the manager sees it differently which is why I've taken this decision to get some first team football.

"Hopefully, I'll get a regular game now I'm here then who knows what could happen after that?

"They've been good enough to give me a chance and it's a great opportunity for me to put myself in the shop window."

Kenna, who has been told he can leave Ewood on a free if he finds a suitable club, has been restricted to just a handful of reserve appearances so far this term.

But he feels fit and ready for the challenge of Second Division football.

"It's obviously difficult when you're just playing in the reserves because the games don't come up that often.

"So although I feel I could probably do with a few more games, I feel fit and sharp enough to give it a go."
