BRITAIN'S favourite literary lunatics Lip Service are back at Blackpool Grand Theatre next week.

And this time the hilarious duo are sending up Oscar Wilde's Importance Of Being Earnest complete with a giant handbag set and promising a slap in the face with a cucumber sandwich.

It has to be seen to be believed, but if you caught the hilarious Women On The Verger, Withering Looks or King Arthur and The Knights of The Occasional Table previously at the Grand then you know the crazy and wonderful direction things could take.

One half of Lip Service, Sue Ryding, gave a bit of an insight into the show.

"We are staying true to the script," she said from a cosy cottage in the Lake District where the comedy couple are staying while on tour. "But with bits of improvisation added which depend on what happens in the audience on the night and so on, so it's quite flexible.

"The reception has been amazing so far except for a few 'Disgusteds of Tunbridge Wells' and the like who thought they were getting some serious rendition from RADA or something.

"Kids are really loving it and they're getting the original play as well which is great.

"At the beginning half of the cast are arrested and taken to the local police station and Maggie and I have to play the parts ourselves with lots of costume changes -- cross-dressing should go down very well in Blackpool!

"This is the first time Maggie (Fox) and I have had other actors involved in a show but director Lawrence Till approached us to do this in the first place and we said, 'Do you want just us or other people too?' and it went from there."

Maggie Fox was also recently seen as Hayley and Roy's farm-owning harbourer when they went on the run in Coronation Street.

"I could tell she was on the verge of laughter all the way through it," added Sue. "And they cast her because they said they wanted someone asexual which upset her a bit!"

Anything next on the list for Lip Service? "We are thinking of doing something on the Trojan War and calling it Hector's House but we'll see if we get funding."

Don't miss Lip Service's Importance Of Being Earnest at Blackpool Grand Theatre from November 15-17 at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Call the box office on (01253) 290190 for tickets from £9.50.
