A 33-year-old man was attacked outside a Bury pub.

The victim suffered facial injuries and was detained in hospital for observations following Saturday night's (Nov 3) assault.

The man had been drinking in the Cotton Tree in Bell Lane and was involved in an argument with another drinker only known as 'Wayne'.

After taking his girlfriend home, the victim was walking past the Blue Bell pub at Moorgate when he met "Wayne" again and was punched to the ground.

The 33-year-old was taken to Fairfield General Hospital with a suspected fractured skull. X-rays proved negative.

However, staff kept the attack victim in for observations due to a large amount of swelling to his face.

Police are now appealing for anyone who saw the midnight attack to contact them on 0161 856 8150.
